Order of Operations GEMDAS

I still used GEMDAS. The kids have responded well to it.

The bottom half is a page folded into fourths and glued down. This quarter fold page contains GEMDAS and what each letter represents.

My journal pages are a compilation of notes, foldables, and practice problems.

GEMDAS

This was new! My student brought this to my attention.  He pointed out that parenthesis (P) was a narrow approach and grouping symbols (G) represents so much more.  I couldn't agree more.  I have struggled with the parenthesis portion of PEMDAS. Students frequently confused it with the distribution step. Someone vaguely mentioned a better approach for order of operations on the Algebra level at a workshop. Any suggestions?  Resources?
